The right Vancouver ticket depends on where the day starts: the downtown harbour, the North Shore across the inlet, the Sea to Sky highway, or a seaplane and ferry crossing to Victoria.

Experiences worth prioritising in Vancouver

Our planning choices weigh the experience, who it suits and what you give up. Affiliate sales and availability do not determine this order.

  1. Capilano’s ticketed park or Lynn Canyon’s free bridge?

A Capilano ticket bundles three structures into one timed entry, while Lynn Canyon Park is a public park with a single bridge. The decision is bundle versus bridge, not which canyon is more scenic.

Best for Visitors choosing one North Vancouver canyon for a day

Consider The entry window is fixed at purchase, and a late arrival is still admitted but may wait behind guests arriving on schedule.

  2. A Grouse Mountain ticket or a Grouse Grind climb?

A listing that names Mountain Admission covers the ride up and down and the attractions at the top. A climber who walks up needs only the ride down.

Best for Visitors deciding how much of the mountain to do on foot

Consider The first descent for hikers leaves daily at 7:30 am, so a climb is planned around the morning.

  3. Sea to Sky by guided tour, shuttle or self-drive

Shannon Falls and the Sea to Sky Gondola both sit on Highway 99. The same stops can be reached on a guided day, on a shuttle to the gondola or in a rental car.

Best for Visitors without a car who still want the corridor

Consider A gondola day ticket takes no reservation and stays valid until its printed expiry. A guided departure sets the schedule around its driver.

  4. Victoria by seaplane, ferry or a packaged day

A seaplane lands at the Inner Harbour beside the Parliament Buildings. A ferry docks at Swartz Bay on Highway 17 and needs a bus or coach into town. A packaged day may bundle the crossing and the transfer, so its inclusions have to say which.

Best for Visitors deciding how to cross to Vancouver Island

Consider On a ferry the return sailing is the constraint. Booking check-in closes 30 minutes before departure, and a missed sailing moves the fare to another sailing the same day only.

  5. Gastown and Chinatown on your own or with a guide

The streets are public, so a guided walk sells history rather than entry. It explains why Chinatown formed and what the steam clock is.

Best for Visitors who want the story behind the heritage streets

Consider The Sun Yat-Sen Garden is a separate venue, so a street walk does not include garden entry unless the listing says so.

Choose the right Vancouver ticket or tour

Capilano or Lynn Canyon: one ticket or one bridge

Pick Capilano when one ticket for the bridge, Treetops Adventure and Cliffwalk fits the day, and Lynn Canyon when a single free bridge is enough.

Both sit in North Vancouver, and buses run to each from Lonsdale Quay.

The trade-off Fix the Capilano start before adding Grouse Mountain, since a timed entry is the one commitment on the day that cannot slide.

Grouse Mountain: choose the ticket for the weather

Choose a listing that includes Mountain Admission for a view-and-wildlife visit, and treat the Grind as a separate physical challenge.

Cloud can hide the view at the top while downtown stays clear.

The trade-off A fixed-date group departure cannot move with the cloud, so prefer a ticket whose date can change when the outing is a viewpoint.

Sea to Sky: ask for the return time first

For Shannon Falls and the gondola alone a shuttle or a rental car works; for a Whistler day a guided tour removes the driving.

The Squamish Connector runs a round-trip shuttle from two downtown pick-ups to the gondola.

The trade-off Ask for the return time before the departure time, because one highway carries every vehicle back.

Victoria: pick the crossing before the tour

Choose a seaplane for a short crossing that ends beside the Inner Harbour, and the ferry when a vehicle or a longer sailing suits the day.

The 620 bus links downtown Vancouver with the Tsawwassen terminal, and buses 70 and 72 link Swartz Bay with Victoria.

The trade-off Foot-passenger fares are non-refundable, so confirm the return sailing before paying for the outbound one.

MAKE THE TRIP YOURS

Fit your bookings into a day

Full day: the North Shore in one crossing

Capilano sells a timed entry while Grouse Mountain follows the weather, so fix the morning and leave the mountain to the afternoon.

Vancouver in 3 Days for C$220? →

Two days: Victoria as an overnight

The overnight removes the same-day return problem, but the seaplane’s Coal Harbour departure and the ferry booking rules still fix the times at both ends.

Vancouver in 3 Days for C$220? →

Wet-weather day: market, museum and garden

The three sit in three directions from downtown, so on a wet day choose two, since each transfer adds a leg.

FAQs about Vancouver

Does a North Vancouver day tour include Capilano admission?

Only when the listing says so. Capilano’s single admission covers the bridge, Treetops Adventure and Cliffwalk, and Lynn Canyon Park is a separate public park, so read the stop list before assuming either one.

Is the Skyride part of a Grouse Mountain ticket?

Mountain Admission includes a round trip on the Skyride or the Blue Grouse Gondola. A hiker who climbs the Grind buys a Download ticket for the ride down, so the two purchases are different.

How much time is left in Whistler on a day trip?

Less than the itinerary suggests. The drive is 120 kilometres on Highway 99, and a shuttle typically takes two and a half to three hours each way. Shuttle companies advise leaving Whistler at least five hours before a flight.

Where does a Victoria ferry day trip arrive?

BC Ferries from Tsawwassen docks at Swartz Bay, at the end of Highway 17 north of Victoria. Buses 70 and 72 carry passengers to downtown Victoria, so a tour should name its coach transfer.

Do the shuttles from Canada Place need a ticket?

Both free shuttles leave from Canada Place, but each has a condition. Grouse Mountain’s shuttle runs first come, first served with a round-trip Mountain Admission ticket, and Capilano’s return trip asks for proof of park admission.

Is the SeaBus a tour or ordinary transit?

It is ordinary TransLink transit, so one fare covers 90 minutes across SeaBus, bus and SkyTrain and children aged 12 and under ride free. A harbour cruise is a different product that a listing has to describe.
