Mubboo Research No. 3 · 2026 Edition, version 1.1 · 36 named attractions
The Booking Is Not the Deadline: Global Attraction Reservation Index 2026
Across 36 named visits in 20 countries, 17 of 23 date-allocated attractions still document an official same-day ticket route, and only 3 of 33 verified products require purchase before arrival. [S01]
A required date or time slot is a rule about entry; it is not a purchase deadline. This index separates the two for a fixed panel of specifically named tickets, using official operator pages only. It describes published policy, not live stock or a worldwide rate. Version 1.1 restructures the report and adds cuts; no value changed. [S01]
- 1. Policy permits same-day entry at 17 of 23 date-allocated attractions; 5 have no verified route and 1 conflicts.
- 2. Only 3 of 33 verified products require buying before arrival (Ghibli Museum, teamLab Planets, Van Gogh Museum); none has a verified same-day route.
- 3. Advice runs ahead of rules: 22 of 27 verified advice entries recommend booking ahead, but only 3 require it.
- 4. No standard lead time: 13 verified release mechanisms run from about one month to 12 months ahead.
- 5. Official pages disagree in 9 fields at 5 products. Each conflict is shown, not resolved by choosing a side.

Global Attraction Reservation Index 2026, explained in 94 seconds
A short animated summary of this report: why a time slot is a rule about entry rather than a deadline to buy, how 17 of the 23 date-allocated attractions in this index document an official same-day route, why only 3 of 33 verified products must be bought before arrival, and how sales calendars, change rules and official disagreements differ. Published operator policy only, not live availability.

A timed ticket means a deadline to buy. Right? Of twenty-three attractions in our index with an assigned date or time, seventeen document an official way to buy on the day. A time slot is a rule about entry. It isn't a deadline to buy. We read official operator pages for thirty-six named visits, in twenty countries and territories. Seventeen name a same-day route: a desk, a machine, or online for that day. Five have no verified route in the pages we read; one has pages that disagree. And a route is policy, not a promise of space. Only three of thirty-three verified products must be bought before arrival: the Ghibli Museum, teamLab Planets and the Van Gogh Museum. The same three with no verified same-day route. Advice is different: twenty-two of twenty-seven verified entries recommend booking ahead; only three require it. For thirteen, we verified when sales open: from about one month to twelve months ahead. Sales open at least ten months out at Hobbiton, and in tranches at the Alhambra. The first chance to buy, not the last. Changing your date or time? Of twenty-nine verified change rules: fifteen conditional, two allowed, twelve prohibited. And official pages disagree in nine fields at five products. So check the operator's policy for your exact ticket and date before you travel. Does a timed attraction ticket mean I must book days ahead?
No universal rule follows from a time slot alone. Seventeen products in this named panel require an allocation and also document a same-day purchase route. Stock may still be unavailable on the day you choose; check the official seller for the exact product. [S01]
Which attractions in the index require buying before arrival?
Three of 33 products with a verified answer: Ghibli Museum, teamLab Planets and Van Gogh Museum. None has a verified same-day route in the official sources we read. [S04] [S19] [S01]
Which attractions in the index allow a same-day path?
The downloadable table names each of the 17 required-allocation products with a verified route, plus its channel and official source. Examples include Alcatraz Island's authorised ferry ticket, Sagrada Família's on-site QR purchase and the Colosseum's ticket office. Other products have no verified route or conflicting guidance, which is not evidence that same-day purchase is impossible. [S01] [S02] [S03] [S20]
What does the index measure?
It codes the published policy for 36 fixed, named ordinary-visit products. Reservation requirement, advance advice, release timing, same-day channel, change rights and evidence status are separate fields. It does not measure live inventory, queues or global prevalence. [S01]
Scope of this edition
This box fixes what every number below describes. All counts sit inside it. [S01]
| Item | Scope |
|---|---|
| Panel | 36 specifically named ticket products, fixed before full extraction. Purposive, not a random sample. |
| Geography | 20 countries or territories in six world regions: Europe 14, Asia 10, North America 5, Africa 3, Oceania 2, South America 2. |
| Categories | Heritage sites 13, museums 9, viewpoints and towers 8, guided visits 2, transport and attraction 2, gardens 1, theme parks 1. |
| Unit | One adult visitor, one direct public ticket product, an ordinary operating day. |
| Reference dates | Official pages read 27 September to 1 October 2026; data frozen 1 October 2026. |
| Evidence standard | Operator or responsible-authority pages only. Each field has a status and source IDs; unverified is never counted as positive. |
| Rule distribution | 23 required, 2 recommended, 8 not required, 2 conflicting, 1 temporarily closed. |
| Exclusions | Live inventory, prices, queues, sell-out speed, third-party resellers, concessions, groups and special-event days. |
Definitions used in this report
Six terms carry the argument. The first three describe the rule for entry; the rest describe how a ticket can be bought. [S01]
| Term | Meaning in this index |
|---|---|
| Required allocation | An official page says the ticket carries an assigned date or time. It is a rule about entry, whatever day the ticket is bought. |
| Recommended | The operator advises booking ahead but, in the pages read, does not make an assigned slot compulsory. |
| Not required | An official page says visitors may enter without a booking. |
| Conflict | Two or more official pages disagree for the same scoped product. We keep it unresolved and do not choose a side. |
| Purchase before arrival | The ticket must be bought before reaching the site. A separate field from allocation, coded only when a page says so plainly. |
| Documented same-day route | An official page names a way to buy for today: staffed desk, on-site machine, on-site QR or online purchase, or online for the same day. |
| Not verified, not stated | Not verified: no readable official answer. Not stated: a relevant page was read and is silent. Neither is permission or a ban. |
| Official sources we read | Operator or authority pages our two extraction passes could open. A rule absent from them is unverified, not absent. |
Method in brief
The panel of 36 products was fixed before full extraction: 12 feasibility-pilot attractions plus 24 selected additions. Selection aimed at editorial variety, not probability sampling or a most-visited ranking. [S01]
Eight fields were coded separately for each product, each with a value, a status and source IDs. A first pass read operator pages on 27–28 September 2026. On 1 October a second extractor, without access to the first results, re-derived every field, and every difference was settled from the official evidence, not by majority. [S01] [S21]
Both passes were Mubboo's own work, not external peer review. The limits, exclusions and full method follow the findings.
Policy permits same-day entry at 17 of 23 date-allocated attractions
An assigned visit date or time does not necessarily mean tickets must be bought days ahead. In this fixed panel, 23 ordinary attraction products have a verified required allocation. Seventeen of those 23 also have an operator-documented same-day ticket route.
Five have no verified route in the official sources we read (Ghibli Museum, teamLab Planets, Van Gogh Museum, Robben Island Museum tour and Burj Khalifa At the Top); one, the Rijksmuseum, has conflicting official channel guidance. Neither unresolved group can be called sold out or unavailable. [S01]
Among the 17 documented routes, 14 name a staffed ticket office or desk, 8 allow online purchase for the same day and 3 name on-site machines; several offer more than one. Alcatraz's authorised ferry operator describes an on-site ticket booth, while the island visit still requires a timed ferry ticket.
Sagrada Família says visitors can use QR codes around the Basilica to buy online, subject to occupancy; its tickets remain online-only. Since 4 May 2026 the Colosseum has sold on-site tickets only at its Piazza del Colosseo ticket office, and every entry still carries a time slot. These are permitted channels, not a check of remaining places for a particular date. [S02] [S03] [S05] [S20]
By region the cells are small: Europe 6 of 8, Asia 3 of 6, North America 4 of 4, Africa 0 of 1, Oceania 2 of 2 and South America 2 of 2 date-allocated products have a documented route. The table reports counts, not rates, and the report ranks no region. [S01]
| Region | Panel | Date-allocated | Documented route | Not verified | Conflict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Europe | 14 | 8 | 6 | 1 | 1 |
| Asia | 10 | 6 | 3 | 3 | 0 |
| North America | 5 | 4 | 4 | 0 | 0 |
| Africa | 3 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
| Oceania | 2 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
| South America | 2 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
| All regions | 36 | 23 | 17 | 5 | 1 |
Heritage sites and viewpoints mostly document a route; the four date-allocated museums do not
By attraction type, 8 of 9 date-allocated heritage sites and 5 of 6 viewpoints document a same-day route. None of the 4 date-allocated museums does: 3 have no verified route and 1 has conflicting guidance. [S01]
Four products are too few to call this a rule about museums, and the panel was not built to compare types. Read the table as where the unresolved cases sit. A museum with no documented route is not a museum that sells out. [S01]
| Type | Panel | Date-allocated | Documented route | Not verified | Conflict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Heritage sites | 13 | 9 | 8 | 1 | 0 |
| Museums | 9 | 4 | 0 | 3 | 1 |
| Viewpoints and towers | 8 | 6 | 5 | 1 | 0 |
| Guided visits | 2 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
| Transport and attraction | 2 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
| Gardens | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Theme parks | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
Timed slots dominate: 24 of 36 products use one
The form of admission is its own field. 24 of the 36 products admit visitors in a timed slot, 3 on a chosen date with flexible entry, 1 on a multi-day ticket and 2 have conflicting official pages. 5 are not stated or not verified and 1 is temporarily closed. [S01]
Among the 23 date-allocated products, 22 use a timed slot and one, Tokyo Disneyland, a dated ticket with flexible entry. A timed slot alone does not establish that the ticket must be bought on an earlier day. [S06] [S01]
| Admission form | All 36 | Date-allocated (23) |
|---|---|---|
| Timed slot | 24 | 22 |
| Dated, flexible entry | 3 | 1 |
| Multi-day validity | 1 | 0 |
| Official pages conflict | 2 | 0 |
| Not stated or not verified | 5 | 0 |
| Temporarily closed | 1 | 0 |
Only three products require buying before arrival
Of the 33 products with a verified answer, three must be bought before the visitor arrives: Ghibli Museum, teamLab Planets and Van Gogh Museum. The same three have no verified same-day route in the official sources we read, and all three are museums. [S04] [S19] [S01]
For 18 of the 23 date-allocated products, an official page says purchase before arrival is not required. For two, Park Güell and the Rijksmuseum, official pages disagree. So an allocated slot and a purchase deadline are different rules. [S01]
Advice runs further than the rule. Of 27 verified advice entries, 22 recommend booking ahead, 2 call it optional and 3 make it a requirement. Among the 23 date-allocated products, 15 carry a recommendation and 3 a requirement. A recommendation is advice, not a rule. [S01]
| Advice | Date-allocated (23) | Other rules (13) | All 36 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Purchase required before arrival | 3 | 0 | 3 |
| Recommended | 15 | 7 | 22 |
| Optional | 1 | 1 | 2 |
| Not stated, not verified or conflicting | 4 | 5 | 9 |
Release calendars run from about one month to 12 months ahead
A release date is the first chance to buy, not the last. Of 36 products, thirteen have a verified release mechanism; the rest are not stated, not verified or inapplicable in the captured evidence. The mechanisms cannot be collapsed into one number of days ahead. [S01]
Ghibli Museum releases tickets on a monthly schedule and requires advance reservations; its public ticket page does not establish that every visit must be purchased on an earlier calendar day. The Colosseum begins standard ticket sales 30 days out. These describe the first opportunity to buy, not the latest possible purchase. [S04] [S05]
Tokyo Disney Resort opens sales each day at 2 p.m. Japan time for the same date two months later, and sells tickets online until an hour before the park closes on the day itself. Tokyo Skytree uses a monthly opening with exceptions. [S06] [S07]
Qualifiers matter. Alcatraz, CN Tower, Peak Tram and Park Güell state maximum windows, Hobbiton a minimum of 10 months, and the Alhambra releases quota in tranches 12, 3 and 1 months before the visit. [S01]
| Product | Type | Operator's wording, shortened |
|---|---|---|
| Eiffel Tower | Rolling window | Generally up to 90 days; exceptions possible |
| Alcatraz | Rolling window | Up to 90 days |
| Colosseum | Rolling window | 30 days before the visit |
| CN Tower | Rolling window | Up to 30 days |
| Peak Tram | Rolling window | Up to 30 days |
| Park Güell | Months ahead | Up to about 3 months |
| Sagrada Família | Months ahead | About 2 months at present |
| Hobbiton | Months ahead | At least 10 months |
| Alhambra | Months ahead | Quota tranches 12, 3 and 1 months before |
| Tokyo Disneyland | Calendar schedule | Daily, same date two months ahead, 2 p.m. JST |
| Tokyo Skytree | Calendar schedule | 1st of the month, two months ahead; special days differ |
| teamLab Planets | Calendar schedule | Month after next, released early in the month |
| Ghibli Museum | Calendar schedule | Next calendar month, released on the 10th at 10:00 JST |
Official sources disagree in 9 fields at 5 products
A conflict is recorded when two official pages for the same scoped product give different answers. We re-open both, check product, date and channel, and keep the conflict if it remains. We do not pick the convenient page. 9 field-level records at 5 of the 36 products are conflicts. [S01]
English Heritage's Stonehenge prices page says ordinary tickets are valid all day and can be bought on the day, online or on arrival. Its current questions-and-answers page still refers to an advance timed ticket, and an older booking FAQ, still reachable under a 2014 banner, also describes timed tickets. All of them allow same-day purchase. [S08] [S09] [S10]
The Uffizi's FAQ says visitors may come without a booking on weekdays but that booking is mandatory at weekends and on public holidays; its visitor notice describes same-day ticket-office sales without that distinction. Because the rule depends on the day, it is recorded as conflicting rather than as not required. [S11] [S12]
The Rijksmuseum's visit pages say a limited number of tickets are sold at the entrance, while its ticket-information page says tickets are only available online. Park Güell's short FAQ says tickets must be bought in advance online and its detailed FAQ only recommends it.
Every Park Güell ticket is for a time band, sales have been online-only since July 2024 and the official availability page lists slots for the current day. Its allocation rule is therefore required and its same-day online route documented. [S13] [S14] [S15] [S16] [S17] [S18]
| Product | Fields | What the official pages say | How it is recorded |
|---|---|---|---|
| Park Güell Monumental Zone | Purchase before arrival; earlier-day purchase; advice | Short FAQ: buy online in advance. Detailed FAQ: advance purchase only recommended. | One disagreement, conflict in three fields; allocation required. |
| Peak Tram round trip | Admission time | Live purchase flow shows a visit date only. The FAQ still describes timeslot e-tickets. | Conflict; reservation rule is not required. |
| Rijksmuseum | Same-day route; purchase before arrival | Visit pages: a limited number of tickets at the entrance. Ticket-information page: online only. | Conflict in both fields. |
| Stonehenge | Reservation rule; admission time | Prices page: ticket valid all day, buy on the day. Questions page and a legacy FAQ: advance timed ticket. | Conflict in both fields; same-day route still documented. |
| Uffizi Galleries | Reservation rule | FAQ: booking mandatory at weekends and public holidays. Visitor notice: same-day ticket-office sales. | Conflict (depends on the day), not coded as not required. |
Change rules split three ways: 15 conditional, 2 allowed, 12 prohibited
A right to change a ticket is not the same as a refund right. Of 29 products with a verified change rule, 15 allow changes with conditions, 2 allow them outright and 12 prohibit them. Six remain unverified or not stated, so the index does not publish a flexibility ranking. [S01]
The Rijksmuseum asks visitors seeking a new date or start time to contact it at least 48 hours before the existing booking, subject to availability. teamLab Planets allows conditional changes for direct Entrance Pass purchases up to 2 hours before entry, with exclusions. Rules are product-specific; check the operator before buying. [S14] [S19]
| Change rule | Products |
|---|---|
| Conditional | 15 |
| Allowed | 2 |
| Prohibited | 12 |
| Total verified | 29 |
Limits, exclusions and full method
The panel contains 36 scoped products in 20 countries or territories across six world regions. These counts describe the named products only and cannot estimate a global rate. [S01]
Show the full sectionHide
For each product Mubboo separately coded required allocation, before-arrival and earlier-calendar-day requirements, same-day channel, release mechanism, entry-time form, voluntary change and advance-purchase advice. Operator or responsible-authority pages were first checked on 27–28 September 2026.
On 1 October 2026 a second extractor, without access to the first results, re-derived every field from official pages and checked each operator's site for newer notices. Each field carries a status and source IDs in the CSV; the companion register lists URL, method, date and capture hashes where available. [S01] [S21]
A temporarily closed scoped product, Museum of the Future, stays in the fixed roster as not applicable; closure is not counted as a strict booking rule. Forty of the first pass's 44 direct HTTP captures contained substantive text; four script-only pages were not used as evidence. The second pass added 95 official source records.
Both passes were carried out by Mubboo; this is not external peer review. No checkout, live stock, sellout rate, queue or visitor-success study was conducted. [S01]
The predeclared method allows a percentage headline for a metric only with at least 33 of 36 verified observations. After the 1 October correction, 33 reservation-rule classifications are verified, which meets that threshold; the report nevertheless leads with counts, because the panel is purposive and a percentage would invite a worldwide reading.
Recheck the operator's policy for the exact ticket and date before travel. [S01]

Corrections and edition history
The figure moved because the first extraction under-read the official sources. It sometimes read only one of the official pages that bear on a rule, for example the Uffizi's purchase page but not its FAQ, so it recorded a route as unverified or a rule as simpler than it is. A second extractor, blind to those results, re-read every product's official pages on 1 October 2026.
The correction changed 111 field-level values: 97 adopted from that blind pass and 14 headline decisions settled against official pages. [S01]
Park Güell moved from conflicting to required; the Uffizi moved from not required to conflicting; the Taj Mahal moved from unverified to not required. Same-day routes are now documented for the Colosseum, Versailles, the Acropolis, Tokyo Disneyland and Park Güell. The Rijksmuseum's channel is now conflicting and teamLab Planets' unverified. The 28 September data remain archived for comparison.
Version 1.1 (5 October 2026) changes wording, structure and adds derived cuts. No value, classification or source changed, and the CSV files are byte-identical to the 1 October edition.
- Initial release, 28 September 2026: 12 of 22 date-allocated visits with a documented same-day route; 32 of 36 reservation rules verified. Withdrawn on 29 September 2026; an independent cross-validation followed. One earlier internal draft, frozen on 28 September, was withheld before publication.
- Version 1.0, 1 October 2026: corrected data, republished the same day. 17 of 23; 33 of 36 verified. This is the data every later version uses.
- Version 1.1, 5 October 2026: this edition. Restructured as an industry report with scope and definitions boxes, new cuts, two new figures and appendices.

Appendix A. All 36 named visits
The unit is one ordinary adult visitor, one specified direct public ticket product, and an ordinary operating day. The table is a reference, not a ranking of countries or difficulty. Read the exact product scope and field-level source IDs in the CSV before applying a row to a different ticket or visitor. [S01]
A blank or unresolved field is never permission to arrive without a booking. The same-day column says only whether an official policy route was documented; it does not measure live inventory, queues or prices.

Appendix B. Local lookup across 20 countries and territories
These are counts of the selected attractions physically located in each country or territory. The panel deliberately includes different categories and is not a comparable national sample; a country with one row should not be compared with another with four. FAQ
Can you buy timed-entry tickets on the day?
In this index, 17 of the 23 attractions that require an allocated date or time document an official same-day ticket route. Five have no verified route in the sources we read; one, the Rijksmuseum, has conflicting guidance. This is policy, not live stock: check the operator for your exact ticket and date.
How far in advance do attraction tickets go on sale?
It depends on the product. Thirteen products in this index have a verified release mechanism, from about one month to 12 months ahead: the Colosseum begins standard sales 30 days before the visit, the Alhambra releases quota in tranches 12, 3 and 1 months before, and Hobbiton states at least 10 months. A release date is the first chance to buy, not the last.
Which attractions in the index must be booked before arrival?
Three of 33 with a verified answer: Ghibli Museum, teamLab Planets and Van Gogh Museum. The rest either say purchase before arrival is not required or have conflicting or unverified guidance.
Is booking ahead recommended even when it is not required?
In this index, 22 of 27 verified advice entries recommend booking ahead, 2 call it optional and 3 make it a requirement. A recommendation is the operator's advice, not a rule about entry, and the index reports it as advice.
Can I change the date or time of a timed ticket?
It depends on the product. Of 29 products in this index with a verified change rule, 15 allow changes with conditions, 2 allow them outright and 12 prohibit them; six more are unverified or not stated. A right to change is not a refund right, so check the operator's rule for your exact ticket before buying.
What does “timed entry” mean?
In this report, a required allocation means an official page gives the ticket an assigned date or time. It is a rule about entry, not a purchase deadline: on its own it does not mean buying on an earlier day. Purchase before arrival and a same-day route are coded as separate fields.
Are these percentages for all attractions worldwide?
No. The 36 products were selected purposively, and three rows lack a verified reservation-rule classification because of conflicting guidance or temporary closure. The study reports named-panel counts, not a global estimate.
Why is Stonehenge marked as conflicting?
English Heritage's prices page says the ordinary ticket is valid all day and can be bought on the day, while its questions-and-answers page and an older booking FAQ still describe timed tickets. All of them allow same-day purchase.
