Choose your Louvre visit, Eiffel Tower level or Versailles day, with room for Paris along the Seine.

Experiences worth prioritising in Paris
Our planning choices weigh the experience, who it suits and what you give up. Affiliate sales and availability do not determine this order.
Choose a Louvre route, then a ticket
The Louvre offers an audio guide and a gallery-closure schedule. Choose the collection you want to see before comparing guided visits.
Best for Art-focused visitors who want help narrowing their choices.
Consider A guide sets the pace; an independent visit leaves more room to linger.
Decide which Eiffel Tower level you want
Second-floor and summit tickets are different options. A second-floor ticket cannot be topped up with a summit ticket inside.
Best for First visits where the tower is a priority.
Consider Stairs and the summit are unsuitable for visitors with reduced mobility; the operator directs them to second-floor lift access.
Read the city along the Seine
The river brings the Louvre, Notre-Dame and the Eiffel Tower into one architectural story. Choose a riverside outing for context before another interior visit.
Best for Travellers who prefer seeing buildings in their wider setting.
Consider Exterior views offer an overview, rather than access to the collections inside.
Give Versailles its own day
The Palace, gardens and Trianon form separate parts of the estate. Plan a full day to make the most of the visit.
Best for Visitors who want royal interiors and garden landscapes together.
Consider An estate visit uses time you could spend in Paris; check exactly which areas a ticket includes.
Decide whether the Musée d’Orsay needs a guide
The museum runs its own 90-minute English tour of its masterpieces, meeting at the information desk. Choose that tour, or a guided listing, for an overview of art from 1848 to 1914; choose timed entry when you already know the galleries you want.
Best for Art-focused visitors weighing one guided overview against exploring the collection alone.
Consider The museum’s own tour runs at scheduled times and is for visitors aged 13 and over, so families with younger children need another format. Paris Museum Pass holders still need a timed reservation.
Choose the right Paris ticket or tour
Museum admission or a guided visit?
Choose admission for freedom to follow your own interests; choose a guide when explanation and a selected route are the reason for your visit.
The Louvre distinguishes admission, guided activities and an audio guide. For any reseller listing, check whether admission is included, the guiding language, where the guide meets you and when their service ends.
The trade-off A hosted entrance, audio guide and live guided museum visit are different services. Compare the inclusions rather than treating every listing with “tour” in its title as equivalent.
Eiffel Tower: choose the level and the climb
Decide whether the second floor is enough or whether the summit is central to your visit, then compare stairs and lift access.
The tower sells distinct second-floor and summit options. The stairs-plus-lift summit option uses stairs to the second floor and a lift above it; a second-floor ticket alone is not a summit ticket.
The trade-off Read the selected option, not only the product headline. Check access needs with the venue and confirm which part of the visit is guided before booking.
Seine sightseeing or an evening meal?
Choose a sightseeing cruise when the river views are the main event. Choose dinner on board when you want the meal and cruise to occupy the evening together.
Bateaux Parisiens offers both formats separately. Compare the departure pier, boarding arrangements, menu, drinks and seating category for your chosen operator; similar river photographs can represent very different experiences.
The trade-off A dinner cruise reduces your freedom to choose a restaurant that evening. A sightseeing ticket should not be assumed to include a meal, even when the listing shows tables or refreshments.
Versailles: admission, estate coverage and transport
Make three separate decisions: which estate areas to visit, whether you want a guide and how you will get there from Paris.
Versailles distinguishes tickets with different coverage; the Passport includes the Palace, Trianon estate and gardens, with a Palace time slot. A reseller excursion may add transport or guiding, but those services must be stated explicitly.
The trade-off Do not assume a Palace visit includes every part of the estate or a Paris transfer. Match the meeting point and return arrangement to your accommodation before comparing listings.

MAKE THE TRIP YOURS
Fit your bookings into a day
One day, one interior
Build the day around your booking
For a short first visit, reserve the Louvre time that fits your arrival and choose the collection you most want to see. Use the museum map to keep that visit focused, then leave the later part of the day for the river rather than another timed interior.
Keep an alternative ready
The Louvre closes on Tuesdays and publishes gallery closures. If your chosen collection is unavailable, move the museum visit to another day instead of buying a tour that misses your main interest. Our plan intentionally leaves the river portion flexible.
This deliberately gives up a second major interior; it is our pacing choice, not a minimum-time rule.
A tower visit with less climbing
Plan the whole approach
For travellers avoiding stairs, compare the lift ticket and meeting point before choosing a guided product. Ask the operator about walking before entry, standing during the visit and the return route. Lift access alone does not describe the effort required by the whole outing.
Keep the rest of the day light
Make the tower your main reserved stop, with an unhurried meal afterwards rather than another fixed-time attraction. This is our pacing suggestion for visitors conserving energy; ask the venue directly about individual accessibility requirements.
The Eiffel Tower excludes the summit and stairs for visitors with reduced mobility. Check individual needs with the venue before booking.
A day beyond Paris
Choose the estate areas first
For a history-focused day, use the Palace booking as your anchor, then decide whether the gardens and Trianon are priorities. Versailles recommends a full estate day. Compare the areas included before choosing transport or a guided excursion.
Allow for the return journey
Keep the evening in Paris flexible rather than booking an attraction immediately after your expected return. In wet weather, reconsider how much garden time you want. A shorter Palace-focused visit and a full estate outing serve different interests.
The Palace closes on Mondays. The garden and Trianon plans need their own access checks.
The Canal Saint-Martin by boat
Pick the direction by where you finish
Canauxrama’s Old Paris cruise covers the 4.5 km canal from Bastille to La Villette or the reverse, depending on the date. Finishing at Bastille puts Le Marais within walking distance; finishing at La Villette leaves you in the north-east. Check the departure point when you book.
Expect a tunnel as well as locks
The route passes through the skylit vault under Bastille as well as the open locks and footbridges further north, with live commentary. Online reservations board first, and tickets sold on board depend on space. If two and a half hours is too long, compare the operator’s shorter express cruise.
The full crossing takes about two and a half hours. It finishes at the other end of the canal, so plan your onward route from where you land.
An evening at the Moulin Rouge
Arrive before the doors close
Doors open 1 hour 15 minutes before each show and close 10 minutes before it begins. Anyone arriving later may be refused entry without a refund, so allow a margin for the Métro journey to Blanche on line 2.
Dress and pack for the venue
The Moulin Rouge requires elegant dress and rules out shorts, sportswear and running shoes. Backpacks, suitcases and other large bags are refused in the theatre and the cloakroom, so come from your hotel rather than straight from a train.
Tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded, and no specific seat can be reserved. Children aged six and over are admitted with an adult, but the revue includes topless passages.
VISITOR PERSPECTIVES
What people say about Paris
An Eiffel Tower visitor survey and a firsthand family trip report offer different perspectives on Paris. The report reflects one parent and teenager, not a representative sample. We summarise their experiences in our own words; venue access rules come from the cited sources.
Eiffel Tower survey, 2024; family visit, April 2026 · Sources checked 2026-09-07
A landmark that met visitors’ expectations
The operator reported that 96% of surveyed visitors were satisfied with their Eiffel Tower visit. This describes the tower experience, not the quality of every tour sold around it.
Art museums: match the visit to your interests
In an April 2026 family report, the teenager enjoyed Orsay more than the crowded Louvre visit. The parent valued the Rodin gardens and Cluny tapestries. This is one family’s experience, not a ranking of Paris museums.
The Seine: a change of pace after walking
The same traveller enjoyed a boat ride near the end of the trip as a seated return to places already explored. Their tired teenager was less enthusiastic: a river outing does not suit every traveller equally.
Leave room for gardens and neighbourhoods
Their report also highlighted Luxembourg Gardens, Latin Quarter markets and Seine booksellers. In Montmartre, they regretted not exploring more of the neighbourhood. These personal observations broaden the picture beyond ticketed landmarks.
FAQs about Paris
Should I reserve a Louvre time slot?
Yes: the Louvre recommends a time-slot booking, including for visitors eligible for free admission. Check gallery closures before choosing a tour focused on a particular collection.
Does an Eiffel Tower ticket always include the summit?
No. Check the level and access method before paying: second-floor and summit tickets are different tickets, and a second-floor ticket cannot be topped up to the summit.
Is a Versailles ticket the same as a Palace-only visit?
Check the included areas. The Passport ticket covers timed Palace entry, the Trianon estate and the gardens; other tickets cover different parts of the estate.
Can I visit the Eiffel Tower with reduced mobility?
Plan around second-floor lift access and discuss your needs with the venue. The operator excludes the summit and stairs for visitors with reduced mobility.
Is Versailles open on Mondays?
The Palace is closed on Mondays. Check the gardens and Trianon separately; an estate visit is not a single admission with one opening pattern.
Do I need to buy a ticket to enter Notre-Dame Cathedral?
Admission to Notre-Dame Cathedral is free. An optional free reservation can make entry smoother; new slots are released regularly. If you choose a paid guided activity, check exactly what the guide provides and whether the itinerary enters the cathedral or explores its exterior.
