Why book these three separately

These three are sold as separate tickets, each for a chosen date. This page adds them into one honest total and orders the visits by opening hours.

OptionOur verdict
Melbourne SkydeckAn observation deck on level 88 of Eureka Tower, open from midday. General admission leaves out the Edge glass cube.
Old Melbourne GaolA bluestone prison from 1845 where Ned Kelly was hanged in 1880. The ticket includes a self-guided visit with an audio guide.
Melbourne ZooA full-day zoo in Royal Park, open 9am to 5pm every day, with keeper talks included in general entry.

Visit them in opening order

The zoo opens first and the Skydeck opens last and closes latest, so opening hours set the order. It also runs north to south: the zoo, then the Gaol, then Southbank.

  1. Zoo first: it opens at 9am every day, so give it the morning. Upfield-line trains from Flinders Street stop at Royal Park Station, opposite the zoo’s rail gate.
  2. Old Melbourne Gaol next: it opens at 10am. Allow up to two hours and arrive by 3pm. Trams 30 and 35 stop on La Trobe Street, inside the Free Tram Zone.
  3. Skydeck last: the ticket is valid from midday and the deck stays open into the evening, so it takes the dusk view. It is a five-minute walk from Flinders Street Station.

Good to know

  • The Skydeck closes at 9pm or 10pm depending on the season, with last entry half an hour earlier.
  • All three in one day works only from a 9am zoo start. The Gaol and the Skydeck pair easily on one day, with the zoo on another.
  • The zoo is open 365 days a year; the Gaol closes on Good Friday and Christmas Day.
  • Planned works sometimes replace zoo trams or trains with buses, so confirm the day’s service before you set out.

Questions people ask

Can I book the Skydeck, the Old Melbourne Gaol and Melbourne Zoo as one ticket?

No. Each has its own reviewed ticket, bought and confirmed on its own. The total here is the sum of three starting prices, not a pass or a bundled checkout.

Which order should I visit them in?

The zoo first, then the Gaol, then the Skydeck. The zoo opens at 9am, the Gaol at 10am and the Skydeck at midday, and the Skydeck stays open latest.

Can I cancel any of the three tickets?

Yes. All three reviewed tickets can be cancelled for a full refund up to 24 hours before the visit.

Can I fit all three into one day?

Yes, if you reach the zoo at 9am. Give it the morning, arrive at the Gaol by 3pm and go up the Skydeck in the evening. Two days is calmer.

Does the Skydeck ticket include the Edge?

No. General admission covers the observation deck. The Edge glass cube is a separate experience with its own ticket.

Is Melbourne Zoo free for children?

Children aged 4 to 15 are free on weekends, public holidays and school holidays. On other days they pay a child rate, and under-4s are free.
