A free day, in order

This free day runs south to north along the Strip, then Downtown. Every stop costs nothing to enter; the only bills are a bus fare and, if you drive, parking.

  1. Start at the Flamingo Wildlife Habitat when it opens; there is a keeper talk mid-morning, and no ticket or reservation is needed.
  2. Walk to Bellagio for the Conservatory, unless it is in a closed week between displays.
  3. Watch the Fountains of Bellagio from the afternoon on weekdays, or from noon on weekends.
  4. At dusk, watch Wynn’s Lake of Dreams from the free North Show Terrace, then ride the Deuce to Fremont Street.
  5. End Downtown: canopy shows start on the hour from evening until the small hours, and the street never closes.

Strip water, flowers and light

Three Strip shows cost nothing to watch: Bellagio’s fountains and Conservatory, and Wynn’s Lake of Dreams. Each has a rule that decides when to go.

Good to know

  • Fountains of Bellagio: every 30 minutes in the afternoon and every 15 minutes from 8pm to midnight; the outdoor display can be cancelled for weather.
  • Conservatory: the flower display changes with the season, with a few closed days between displays. The next listed closures are 8 to 13 November and 3 to 8 January.
  • Lake of Dreams: shows repeat every half hour from dusk until 11:30pm, and the North Show Terrace is complimentary.
  • The Mirage volcano is gone: the resort closed in July 2024 and its site is being rebuilt as a Hard Rock hotel.

Downtown: Fremont Street

Fremont Street is the free evening that needs the least timing: the pedestrian mall never closes, and the canopy and stages perform every night. Treat it as a separate outing from the Strip.

Good to know

  • The canopy shows are free and start on the hour from 6pm to 2am; different artists play in different time slots.
  • Live music plays free on three stages every night, and on weekends it can begin as early as noon.
  • The Deuce bus reaches Fremont Street around the clock, so nobody needs a car for the trip.
  • The 4th Street garage gives a 15-minute grace period before fees apply, so it suits a quick stop, not a night out.

Wildlife and roadside stops

A flamingo garden and a roadside sign need no ticket, and the Pinball Hall of Fame stands across the boulevard from the sign. Seven Magic Mountains is the free stop that needs a car or a booked trip.

Good to know

  • Flamingo Wildlife Habitat: open 7am to 8pm daily, with no ticket or reservation, and within walking distance of the Fountains of Bellagio.
  • Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign: a free landmark with its own parking area, so plan a short stop rather than an outing.
  • Pinball Hall of Fame: entry is free and each game takes coins; prices are in the cost table below.
  • Seven Magic Mountains: free, best between sunrise and sunset, with an on-site lot and no reservation to make.

Nearly free, and worth it

A free day still has small bills. The bus and the Monorail cost a few dollars, and parking at MGM’s Strip resorts costs far more than either.

Good to know

  • The Deuce runs 24 hours between the Strip and Fremont Street; children five and younger ride free.
  • The Monorail runs between MGM Grand and SAHARA with seven stations; tickets bought online cost less than full fare at a station.
  • MGM’s Strip resorts charge for self-parking, more from Friday to Sunday; only Nevada residents get a free window.

Free versus paid: our verdicts

Three free-versus-paid calls come up on every Las Vegas budget: a lake terrace, neon, and a desert stop. In one of them the free version is the same show.

OptionOur verdict
Wynn’s free terrace, versus a lakeside tableThe terrace shows the same performance. Pay for a table only when you want a seat and a meal.
Fremont’s free canopy, versus the Neon MuseumThe canopy is a light show; the museum keeps retired signs up close. Pay only if the signs are the point.
Seven Magic Mountains on your own, versus a small-group tripEntry is free either way; the trip sells the ride. Book it only if you have no car.

Seven Magic Mountains trips from Las Vegas

When paying is worth it: from US$25

Pay when the free version cannot give you the thing itself. That means the Neon Museum’s preserved signs up close, or a way to reach Seven Magic Mountains without a car.

The observation wheel and a show are ticket decisions of their own; our combo tickets guide covers them.

Good to know

  • Neon Museum: our reviewed options are timed entries, free to cancel up to 24 hours ahead, from US$25.
  • Seven Magic Mountains and the Welcome sign: our reviewed option is a shared trip with hotel pickup. It is free to cancel up to 24 hours ahead, from ≈ US$60.

Questions people ask

Is the Mirage volcano still erupting?

No. The Mirage closed in July 2024 and its site is being rebuilt as a Hard Rock hotel, so the volcano is not a free show you can plan around.

Is parking free at the Strip’s free attractions?

Not at MGM’s Strip resorts, which charge to park, and charge more from Friday to Sunday. The Deuce bus, which runs all night, is the cheaper way in.

Is the Bellagio Conservatory always open?

No. It closes for a few days between seasonal displays, and Bellagio says its dates can change. The fountains outside do not depend on it.

Do I need a ticket for the Fremont Street canopy show?

No. The canopy shows and the live music on three stages are free, and the pedestrian mall is open around the clock. Shows start on the hour from 6pm.

Can I visit the Neon Museum for free?

No. It sells timed admission, and its only free extra is a digital guide that comes with a visit. The free alternative is Fremont Street’s canopy.

How do I get to Seven Magic Mountains?

Entry is free, best between sunrise and sunset, with an on-site lot. Most visitors go by car, rideshare or a booked small-group trip; there is no reservation to make.
