Where to book each kind of Greece experience
Greece’s bookable experiences start in Athens and spread by road to the Peloponnese, Delphi and Meteora, and by sea from Piraeus to the Saronic Gulf, the Cyclades and Crete. For each base, the table gives what it is known for, the fastest scheduled train, bus or ferry from Athens as the operator lists it, and how many departures run a day.

Journeys: Hellenic Train timetables (Intercity with its bus link to Kalambaka), KTEL Argolida and KTEL Fokida weekday bus timetables, Saronic Ferries sailings for Thursday 17 September 2026, Seajets sailings for Thursday 24 September 2026 and Minoan Lines nightly sailings, giving the fastest scheduled service. All checked 17 September 2026. Activity prices on the buttons are the first featured option and change by date.
Day trip from Athens, or a night away?
- Aegina, 1 hour 10 minutes by ferry with nine sailings on a September weekday: an easy day trip from Athens. The Temple of Aphaia opens 08:00 to 20:00 until 31 October, so a morning boat leaves time for a beach afternoon.
- Nafplio at 2 hours 10 minutes by bus, and Delphi with four buses a day: both work as a long day from Athens, but Mycenae sits 3.5 km from the bus stop at Fichti. Our choice is a day tour that combines the sites, or a night in Nafplio.
- Mykonos at 2 hours 40 minutes and Santorini at 5 hours on the fastest Seajets sailings: not day trips. We would give each island at least two nights and book Delos as a morning trip from Mykonos rather than from Athens.
- Meteora at 5 hours 17 minutes via Palaiofarsalos, with two connections a day, so a trip on your own needs a night. A guided day trip from Athens of about 12 to 14 hours is the one-day option. Crete on the 9 hours 30 minutes overnight ferry is its own stay. The overnight sailing saves a hotel night, and a two-day tour from Athens is the simpler way to add Meteora to Delphi.
Times are the fastest scheduled services on the dates in the sources; other departures take longer, ferry timetables change with the season, and the Kalambaka journey includes a change from train to bus. A tour’s meeting point may be a hotel or a port gate rather than the bus station, so check it before booking the ticket.
Public holidays in 2026 that change what you can book
Greek law sets the compulsory public holidays, listed on gov.gr, and the Bank of Greece gives the 2026 dates of the moving Orthodox feasts. Archaeological sites close on 1 January, 25 March, 1 May, Easter Sunday (12 April in 2026) and 25 and 26 December, and entry is free on the last weekend of September and on 28 October. For a trip booked now, the dates to check first are Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September and Ohi Day on Wednesday 28 October. Our advice: check the opening hours for your date before booking any date on this list.
- Thursday 1 January · New Year’s Day
- Tuesday 6 January · Epiphany
- Monday 23 February · Clean Monday
- Wednesday 25 March · Independence Day and the Annunciation
- Friday 10 April · Orthodox Good Friday
- Monday 13 April · Orthodox Easter Monday
- Friday 1 May · Labour Day

Are Greece activities ranked as Mubboo recommendations?
No. The live shelf is commercial discovery and may use provider recommendation signals. Mubboo’s editorial planning remains independent of commission, price, review count and availability.
Why do the regional shelves use different IDs?
The booking platform maps Greece and each regional destination separately, with Athens, Santorini, Mykonos, Heraklion (Crete), Meteora and Rhodes each carrying their own reviewed destination ID, so a regional shelf is not a keyword-only guess.
Do I choose a tour date on Mubboo?
No. Discovery is date-free here. Choose the product, then confirm the current date, inclusions, availability and cancellation terms on the booking platform.
What should I compare for a Cyclades or Dodecanese island tour?
Check the exact named stops, whether transport is by ferry, catamaran or coach, the language and group format, and the meeting point. “Best views” does not mean every tour reaches the same vantage point.
Can one activity book the full Greece itinerary?
Not unless the listing explicitly says so. Mubboo’s itineraries are planning frameworks; each linked collection covers only its stated region or trip segment.
Does an Athens activity also cover a Saronic Gulf island?
No. The booking platform maps Athens (d496) on its own; a Piraeus-departing Saronic cruise or an Aegina ferry crossing sits under a separate regional listing, so an Athens-only search will not surface it.
Should I book Acropolis-related activities before landing in Greece?
Yes for the Acropolis site itself: the Ministry of Culture’s own booking platform requires a declared entry slot rather than open walk-up entry, and popular slots in high season can fill days ahead. Meteora and Delphi tours have more same-week availability.
Are Crete and Meteora activities interchangeable with a quick Athens add-on?
No. Crete needs its own flight or ferry from Athens, so it suits a dedicated leg of a trip. Meteora is just over five hours by train and replacement bus, or a guided day trip of about 12 to 14 hours from Athens, so it is a long day or a night away, not a quick add-on.
