Why book these three separately

Chicago’s best-known visits sell under three different rulebooks, so this page prices three tickets with one honest total, not a pass. Two show the buildings, one from the water and one from inside; the third is the museum.

OptionOur verdict
Chicago River architecture cruiseA 90-minute narrated sail on all three branches of the river, on a fixed departure from the Michigan Avenue Bridge.
Loop interiors walking tourA two-hour, 1.25-mile walk inside historic Loop buildings, in groups capped at 20, with the meeting point sent after booking.
The Field MuseumA dated ticket to the natural history halls. Special exhibitions and 3D movies cost extra, and last general admission is at 4pm.

The order follows what limits each date. The interiors walk has the fewest places, the cruise sails on fixed departures, and the museum is open every day but two.

  1. Interiors walk first: pick a morning or afternoon start once your dates are set. Groups stop at 20, and the exact meeting point arrives after booking.
  2. Cruise second: choose a sailing that leaves room before your museum visit, and arrive 30 minutes early. Boarding usually starts 15 minutes before departure.
  3. Field Museum last, on whichever day is left. Last general admission is at 4pm, so start in the morning to see more than a hall or two.
  4. Keep Thanksgiving and 25 December free of museum plans: the Field Museum is closed on both days.

Good to know

  • Both the cruise and the walk go ahead in the rain. If the captain or the walk operator calls off a trip in extreme weather, the ticket is refunded.
  • The walk visits the Rookery Building on most days, but not on Sundays or on Saturday tours that start after 2pm.
  • A cruise ticket is not refunded or exchanged once the sailing time has passed, so a missed boat is a lost ticket.
  • On select Legendary Late Hours dates the Field Museum stays open to 9pm, with last entry at 8pm.

Questions people ask

Can I book the cruise, the interiors walk and the Field Museum as one ticket?

No. Each has its own reviewed ticket, bought and confirmed on its own. The total here is the sum of three starting prices, not a pass or a bundled checkout.

Which ticket should I book first?

The interiors walk, because its groups stop at 20 and it runs on set start times. Then the cruise, which sails on fixed departures, and the Field Museum last.

Which of these tickets can I cancel?

All three can be cancelled for a full refund up to 24 hours before the start. A cruise ticket is not refunded once the sailing time has passed.

What if it rains on my day?

The cruise and the walk both go ahead in the rain, and the Field Museum is indoors. Extreme weather can bring a cancellation and a refund for the walk or a sailing.

Why is the Shedd Aquarium not one of the three tickets?

Mubboo found no stand-alone Shedd Aquarium ticket among the Chicago tickets it reviews. It is one of two fixed attractions in Chicago CityPASS, which covers five attractions over nine days, but the pass listing Mubboo checked cannot be refunded.

Does the Field Museum ticket include special exhibitions and 3D movies?

No. Basic admission covers the general exhibitions. Ticketed special exhibitions and 3D movies are separate and change through the year.
