Three days, three different water settings

Keep the first day in Cancún, cross to the island on the second and reserve the third for a protected reef. Fix the snorkel date first and move flexible days around it.

  1. Day 1: Playa Delfines and Museo Maya with San Miguelito.
  2. Day 2: ferry from Puerto Juárez to Isla Mujeres, then return before your evening commitment.
  3. Day 3: transfer to Puerto Morelos for the reviewed two-stop reef snorkel.
  4. Set the reef booking and its town meeting point before assigning the other days.

Day 1: mainland beach and Maya museum

Use the beach first if conditions suit swimming, then go to Museo Maya and its adjacent San Miguelito ruins. This is a compact Hotel Zone day with one paid indoor anchor.

  1. Begin at public Playa Delfines and obey the current beach flag.
  2. Move along the Hotel Zone to Museo Maya; allow time for the outdoor San Miguelito site.
  3. Use the evening for an unhurried local meal, not a new cross-region transfer.

Good to know

  • INAH lists different Mexican-national and foreign-adult admission amounts; verify the applicable category.

Day 2: Isla Mujeres by ferry

The independent ferry gives you control over Playa Norte and island time. A reviewed catamaran is a different scheduled day, departing Playa Tortugas rather than Puerto Juárez.

  1. Reach Puerto Juárez and choose a return ferry crossing.
  2. Spend the middle of the day on the island; keep time for the return terminal.
  3. If sailing on a catamaran, confirm Playa Tortugas boarding and the separate dock tax.

Ferry independently

Own the island schedule and pay ferry transport separately.

Day 3: reef snorkel from US$45

Puerto Morelos is a marine-park outing, not another resort-beach visit. The reviewed two-stop snorkel includes the park charges and meets in town; travel from Cancún is yours.

  1. Arrange the southbound transfer to the Puerto Morelos meeting point.
  2. Follow the permitted operator on the two reef stops and its conservation instructions.
  3. Allow for weather and the return before planning an evening elsewhere.

On your own

Reach town and book a permitted operator; beach access does not grant reef entry.

Two stops and park charges, but Cancún pickup is excluded.

The reviewed reef snorkel starts from US$45; the town transfer, museum, ferry and meals are additional.

If you only have two days

Keep one day for the mainland and one for the island. If marine life matters more than island time, replace the ferry day with Puerto Morelos; do not pretend they share a departure dock.

  1. Day 1: Playa Delfines and Museo Maya.
  2. Day 2: Isla Mujeres by ferry, or replace it entirely with a Puerto Morelos reef snorkel.

If you have a fourth day

Add Chichén Itzá as a separate full inland day. The reviewed TG10 circuit includes pickup, the named site tax, cenote equipment and buffet; check the exact option at booking.

  1. Choose TG10 for its named inclusions and confirm pickup.
  2. Keep the archaeological visit, cenote and Valladolid on their own day.

Decisions to make before assigning dates

The beach flag, ferry sailing, reef weather and exact fourth-day tour option can change the order. Keep the mainland visit flexible.

Good to know

  • San Miguelito is part of the museum visit; El Rey is a different archaeological site.
  • The island catamaran and the public Puerto Juárez ferry are different products.
  • Only the reviewed TG10 variant supports the named Chichén Itzá inclusions.

Book only the day whose logistics need it

The independent island ferry and mainland day need no group tour. The inland circuit buys pickup and named admissions. An island catamaran buys a different sailing experience.

Questions people ask

Can I fit Chichén Itzá into an afternoon?

No. Treat its inland travel and archaeological visit as a separate fourth day from Cancún.

Is the Isla Mujeres catamaran the ferry?

No. The public ferry leaves Puerto Juárez. The reviewed catamaran boards at Playa Tortugas for a scheduled snorkel and lunch.

Does Museo Maya include San Miguelito?

Yes. INAH describes the museum and adjacent San Miguelito archaeological site together; El Rey is a separate site.

Which day should I book first?

Secure the permitted Puerto Morelos snorkel and its town meeting point. Move the mainland and ferry days around conditions.
