Free and cheap · Three distinct areas · Admission only
Bali for free: Sanur, Denpasar or Kuta without an entry ticket
Find your Bali experience

Choose one area, not three transfers
The free part is the place you enter, not the journey across Bali. Choose the area near your base and use its natural time of day.
- Stay in Sanur for an east-coast sunrise and a walk on the shoreline path.
- Stay near central Denpasar for Puputan Badung square and its civic setting.
- Stay near Kuta for a late-afternoon beach walk and the west-facing sunset.
- Budget separately before linking any two areas by car, taxi or another paid ride.
| Option | Our verdict |
|---|---|
| Sanur | Best for a sunrise walk and paved coast path; beach admission is free, while parking and rentals are separate. |
| Puputan Badung | Best for a Denpasar public-square pause rather than another beach; museum interiors need a separate admission decision. |
| Kuta | Best for a sunset shore walk and watching surfers; a lesson is a different paid activity. |
Sanur: sunrise without beach admission

Sanur faces east and has a beachside pedestrian path. Its coast works best as a local morning walk, with no need to buy a boat trip or rental to see the sunrise.
Good to know
- Beach access has no general entry ticket; parking, hired bicycles and water activities have separate terms.
- The tourism guide lists example parking charges by vehicle, but actual rates can vary with the access point.
- Follow local tide, weather and staff advice before swimming; the free plan is a shore walk.
Denpasar: an open civic square
Puputan Badung is the public park and monument square in Denpasar’s centre. It offers a city alternative to a beach day, with Bali Museum nearby but outside the free admission plan.
Good to know
- Use the square and monument exterior as the free stop; do not assume admission to Bali Museum is included.
- Check current events if travelling for a performance; a public park does not promise a particular show.
Kuta: sunset without a beach-club bill
Kuta’s sand is free to access and faces the sunset. Take the shore walk independently; pay only if you choose a lesson, rental or other service.
Good to know
- The tourism agency lists no Kuta Beach entry ticket, while hired boards and other services carry their own charges.
- Sea conditions change. Follow posted safety instructions and do not treat free access as a promise of safe swimming.
What the public stops cost to enter
This is an admission total for three alternative public areas, not a suggestion to cross the island in one day. A journey, vehicle parking, meal or rental changes the actual spend.
Good to know
- For Sanur parking, the tourism guide gives IDR 2,000 per motorcycle and IDR 5,000 per car as examples; check the chosen access point.
| Item | IDR per adult | US$ |
|---|---|---|
| Kuta public beach access | IDR 0 | ≈ US$0 |
| Sanur public coast access | IDR 0 | ≈ US$0 |
| Puputan Badung public square | IDR 0 | ≈ US$0 |
The named public areas are free to enter; travel and optional purchases are additional.

Free view or paid activity?
Watching Kuta’s surfers and visiting a public park are complete outings. Pay when you want instruction, equipment or a museum interior, rather than to unlock the shore or square.
| Option | Our verdict |
|---|---|
| Kuta beach walk | Free public access and flexible time; stay on shore when conditions do not support a swim. |
| Kuta surf lesson | Pays for private beginner instruction and included equipment; it does not include a transfer. |
| Puputan square vs museum | The square is public; museum galleries are a separate paid visit with their own access rules. |
Pay for a lesson, not the shoreline
A reviewed private beginner lesson at Kuta adds an instructor, board and rashguard to a beach you can otherwise visit for free. It has a fixed meeting time and no hotel transfer.
See or book a beginner Kuta surf lesson
Good to know
- Choose instruction if you want to enter the water and learn, subject to the day’s conditions.
- Keep the free shore walk if you want the sunset, photographs or time without a schedule.
Public beach access stays free; the lesson is a separate booking.

Pay only when the activity changes
Sanur, Denpasar and Kuta each offer public time without an entry ticket. A Kuta surf lesson buys instruction and equipment, while transport between areas remains separate. Compare the meeting point and cancellation terms before choosing it.
